![]() ![]() Even when it's good, as it was last year, people often grumble about EA's monopoly on football video games. Madden in general tends to get a shorter leash due to EA infamously shutting out the competition with its exclusivity deal. They look back longingly on the days of NFL 2K5, which featured overlays from ESPN and even an authentic highlight show featuring famous sportscaster Chris Berman. Franchise players in particular continue to feel like they are getting the short end of the stick, as even the newly overhauled progression system doesn't quite bring Madden's franchise mode to the level of what's in NBA 2K or even NHL. ![]() These issues have been exacerbated by lingering frustration in certain segments of the fanbase. CPU ball carriers will turn away from open lanes and run right into defenders. Even now, after a handful of updates, blockers will just freeze for seemingly no reason. What was supposed to be a refinement of the already solid gameplay instead felt distinctly unpolished. And new features, like automatic screengrabs, didn't always work. NFL players such as the Houston Texans' Christian Covington complained that their in-game models were a little bit. The Madden subreddit was flooded with gameplay bugs. Once Madden 19 was out in the wild, though, the problems started to emerge, as they often do. Offense and defense in particular felt more balanced than they had been in a long time. Given more time, I was impressed by the more refined player interactions. ![]() My initial impression was that the effect was fairly subtle, but that the gameplay was definitely smoother. Hence the introduction of Real Player Motion, or "RPM:" a brand new animation system intended to make Madden 19 "play the way it looked in the screenshots." Following on from the big transition to the Frostbite Engine and the introduction of Longshot in Madden 18, this year's version was meant to smooth down the rough edges and build upon the new foundation. This was supposed to be what you might call a refinement year for Madden. "Real Player Motion" was meant to take Madden's gameplay to new heights, but its implementation has been spotty and troubled in this year's version. What went wrong? Are these issues overblown? And if they aren't, can Madden 19 right the ship? The answers are complicated, and may say something about the series going forward. The general consensus within the community is that this year's version could have used another few weeks in the oven. Even random NFL threads on Reddit will occasionally feature some passing complaint about Madden 19. While it has a reasonably healthy score of 80 on Metacritic, its user score is an anemic 2.4.īecause of these issues, poor word-of-mouth has dogged the 2019 version. I described it as "ragged" in my review, and since then, fans have found more and more to complain about. The entry that was supposed to refine the animation and greatly upgrade the gameplay has instead been bogged down by bugs. That's where Madden 19 stands some two months after its initial release. If you want to get a feel for how split fans are on Madden 19, you should check out a thread on Operation Sports, one of the largest sports gaming sites on the internet, which is titled simply: "Madden 19: yea or nay." The 18-page thread was posted nearly a month ago, and it's still going as fans debate everything from the franchise mode to the merits of the new Real Player Motion engine. ![]()

![]() There are countless artists that I’d love to collaborate with! I’m currently listening to Miguel, H.E.R, Davido, Nao, Daniel Cesar, SZA, Big Sean, Swae Lee, Tjava … I’m enjoying a lot of new music and then I always keep the classics in heavy rotation, Prince, Al Green and more. What new artist are you listening to and/or like to collaborate with? It combines two things I love: fashion and purpose. Under that umbrella, I’m currently collaborating with rising clothing designer: MeYou, on eco-friendly athleisure wear. For example, after I put out my fifth project: DREAMSEEKER, I started a lifestyle brand under that name. Music is my first love so I’ll continue wherever this journey takes me, but I’ve also started expanding in other creative areas, which is very exciting for me. Where do you see your music and career going in the future? It may have been easier for me if I had more songs for the radio all this time, but the way I approach my music is if I can feel it when I’m writing or recording and performing, then other people will feel it too and hopefully it will stir their soul. It is really hard for me to be fake, even for entertainment sake. You have found longevity within your music career, and I’m sure there have been times when the industry wanted you to be someone else to sell records? How do you handle maintaining your integrity and selling your music? And under our current administration, who can be comfortable being silent? We have to speak about injustice when it’s right in front of our faces. Love will always be at the forefront, but we have to be willing to talk about other things that affect our lives too. I have always had a wide range of subject matter on my albums. Why was it important for you to make this song? Your newest Ep, DREAMSEEKER seems to have a political message with the song Stand. Growing up in The Bay also had me immersed in the Hip Hip community, where I made my first collaborations and it influenced the kind of production I use to this day. ![]() If you're a fan of the 'Mario Party' game franchise, then I would strongly recommend this game to you. It was still playable then and it's still playable now. Everyone's voice was very funny when they either lost a certain amount of coins or fell from a great height in some of the minigames (a.k.a.: Bobsled Run and Platform Peril), and even got burned in some of the minigames as well (a.k.a.: Hot Rope Jump and Dungeon Dash).
![]() ![]() You and your kids should expect to have to try them several times before figuring everything out. To set expectations, I should be clear that the challenges in LotL are considerably more difficult than Prodigy. There are comics panels for the story, but kids can click on them to have the story read out. Lure of the Labyrinth doesn't require reading. This is a math "game" that I will never show to the three J's and I suggest you avoid it. Imagine what damage that could do for a kid who thinks this is a good representation of what math is!ĭon't even get me started about the name "prodigy." Did the name bias me against the game from the start? Maybe, but I felt that my enthusiasm for games and the promised theme were stronger biases, so I still feel I gave the product a good chance. I literally found myself forming an active dislike of the material. The questions had no context, no conceptual framework, were tedious. Unfortunately, the material included is pure drill, and even includes a lot that is really recall rather than skills practice. The same format could be used for spelling, history, driver's ed, etc questions just as easily as math. This mechanic forces \math questions into the game play, but doesn't create any relationship relate to anything else about the game. That's right, doing math in this game is a cost that you have to pay! During each magic duel, we are forced to answer a math question as the hurdle to casting a spell successfully. There is no math integration with game and theme. Second, the vast majority of items you can collect or buy are only available for paid users. First, we don't have a counter to keep track of how much gold we've collected, so it becomes hard to pay attention to that. However, they all have exactly the same in-game effects, so we never have a reason to care about the extra spells (though we do have to waste time and clicks choosing one each time).įinally, they make two mistakes with the loot. Also, the way we gain experience is dueling random forest creatures, an activity that quickly seems pretty uninteresting and unmotivated (the forest creatures are just hanging out, they aren't bad/evil or doing anything wrong per se).įor each new spell, there is a cute animation showing the effects of that spell. More experience feels like it makes the game less fun. Gaining experience gives us extra hearts (capacity to take damage in magical duels), but this just makes the inserted mini-math quizzes longer. There is limited opportunity or in-game reason to explore the world. Most game play is driven by railroaded mini-storylines where we follow a guiding pointer along a linear path to retread locations we've seen before. Unfortunately, each of these turns to disappointment. We are going to explore a new world, gain experience, learn new spells, rather loot. I think one reason I was so disappointed is that the premise starts out rather promising. It is much better than the huge crowd of flash animated drill and kill games. The standard is well below a popular commercial/non-education game, but I would say their work here is only slightly below the cutting edge in edtech products.
